EC-Council Partners with South Africa’s Cyberintelligent Systems (Pty) Ltd to Combat Global Cybersecurity Workforce Gap

Leading African Cybersecurity Firm Will Train Up To 1000 South African Certified Ethical Hackers TAMPA, Fla, November 29, 2022— EC-Council, the world’s leading cybersecurity certification provider and inventor of the Certified Ethical Hacker, today announced a partnership with Cyberintelligent Systems (Pty) Ltd, South Africa’s leading cybersecurity services, and training firm, to upskill cybersecurity professionals in South Africa. The two will collaborate on a program called “1000 Pentesters,” in which they will train up to 1000 South African penetration testers to serve the needs of South Africa and other nations to close the cyber skills gap. Penetration testers are cybersecurity professionals trained to test for weaknesses in systems and play a critical role in ensuring the security of digital infrastructure used in businesses, government agencies, infrastructure, and other organizations. According to a May 2020 Accenture study, South Africa has recorded the third most cybercrime victims globally. Historically low investment in cybersecurity infrastructure has made the nation an easy target for cybercrimes. The rise of cyberattacks has afflicted South Africa dramatically and caused the nation to become a playground for cybercriminals to further their malicious objectives inside and outside the country. “South Africa needs to actively increase the number of skilled cybersecurity professionals working to protect organizations and businesses,” said Jay Bavisi, President and CEO of EC-Council. “Training and certifying capable cyber personnel are critical. Cyberintelligent Systems impressed us with their vision and ambition. We are excited to embark on this bold plan to certify 1000 penetration testers in South Africa while collaborating with them.” The alliance will enable the rapid training of hundreds of skilled, certified cybersecurity professionals and provide the means for South African workers to achieve their Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH), Certified Penetration Testing Professional (C|PENT), and other key industry certifications. Certifications are critical to cybersecurity work, representing the standard to assess professional readiness for many key cyber roles. “Creating a pool of certified cybersecurity professionals is critical not just to solving South Africa’s cyber jobs gap but also to helping other countries,” said George-Paul de Lange, founder and CEO of Cyberintelligent Systems (Pty) Ltd. “We’ve suffered in this country because of this lack of skilled professionals. Through this ambitious plan to train 1000 Certified Ethical Hackers and Pen Testers, we can help not only reduce cybercrime in South Africa and serve as a pool of resources for other countries, many of whom also suffer from a critical gap in their cybersecurity workforce.” According to some studies, as many as 50% of cyber jobs are unfilled in the United States. The US government has called out the problem, which seeks to close the cyber skills gap quickly. The collaboration between EC-Council and Cyberintelligent Systems (Pty) Ltd will benefit South Africans seeking to better their professional position, businesses and organizations, and the victims of cybercrime in South Africa and elsewhere. Certified Ethical Hackers Compete Globally to Secure OWASP TOP 10 Web Applications Threat

EC-Council, the world leader in cybersecurity training and certification, gives aspiring Ethical Hackers an opportunity to participate in the C|EH October Challenge: OWASP Top 10 Web Application Challenge as a part of their Ethical Hacking training. Tampa, Florida, November 15, 2022: Aspiring cybersecurity professionals worldwide competed in the challenging C|EH competition held by EC-Council as part of its Global C|EH Compete Challenge in October 2022. Candidates took part in a 4-hour Capture the Flag (CTF) based on OWASP’s Top 10 web application threats to beat their competitors and earn the top 10 rankings on the Leaderboard. The C|EH Leaderboard is a platform that encourages ethical hackers to actively test their abilities and recognizes the achievements of the top C|EHs worldwide. As part of the competition, every participant was required to demonstrate the expertise of the complete web application hacking methodology, starting from footprinting the entire web infrastructure to web application analysis and exploitation of multiple OWASP Top-10 vulnerabilities in the target business application. They were also required to perform sensitive data exfiltration. The challenge required candidates to use various exploitation techniques such as client-side controls evasion, authentication and authorization attacks, injection attacks, LFI and RFI, and CMS exploitations to gain access to the target’s critical infrastructure, elevate privilege and gain access to the protected assets. Candidates raced the clock with their peers to earn the top spot in the Ethical Hacking Leaderboard. In October’s C|EH Compete challenge, candidates were tasked with reviewing the security of a target financial institution’s web applications, which offer national and international services, and ensuring that they are not vulnerable to any OWASP’s top ten vulnerabilities. The October competition is a part of a 12-month continuous training for Certified Ethical Hackers among the world’s elite cyber professionals across the latest technologies and platforms, from web applications, OWASP Top 10, SCADA, etc. “An aspiring cyber professional enrolled in the C|EH program must complete these challenges in under 4 hours to hone their skill. They are also pitted against other players worldwide to develop critical thinking abilities. EC-Council strongly believes there will be little or no progress if no competition exists. Competition brings out the best in our candidates,” said Jay Bavisi, President and Founder of the EC-Council Group. EC-Council proudly congratulates its Accredited Training Center in Brazil, ACADI-TI, for successfully training its students with the highest quality of CEH training, which led to 2 of its students making it to the top 10 CEH October Global Challenge Leaderboard. Last month’s Leaderboard standings saw Dunura Dulshan from Sri Lanka bag the top position, followed closely by Roshan Pathak from India, and Marc Vetten sealed the third place from Germany. Competitors face a realistic cyberattack scenario to practice, compete, grow, and sharpen their cyber skills against various new target organizations. The C|EH Global Challenges offers monthly capture-the-flag-style challenges to help students hone their ethical hacking skills. After completing C|EHv12 training, candidates will participate in a 12-month global hacking competition using the Compete methodology of the new C|EH learning model. The C|EH Compete structure enables students to put their learning skills to the test through capture-the-flag style competitions against some of the world’s top ethical hackers. These curated, 4-hour CTFs, held in EC-Cyber Council’s Range, allow participants to demonstrate their ethical hacking prowess and earn recognition. EC-Council to Increase Development of Ethical Hackers to Address Mounting Shortage of Cybersecurity Professionals

Citing 50% Vacancy in US Cybersecurity Workforce, Company Launches New Certified Ethical Hacker Training Framework Which Requires Trainees to “Hack” an Organization as Part of Their Training. TAMPA, Florida, September 7th, 2022 / EC-Council, the leading global cybersecurity certification body, has announced the release of its flagship Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) version 12 program, and plans to train up 100,000 new ethical hackers worldwide within 5 years to address the severe shortage of Certified Ethical Hackers across the globe. Known for the de-facto global standard in building ethical hacking skill since 2003, EC-Council’s new CEH Version 12 program will be based on an entirely new learning framework incorporating a novel Learn, Certify, Engage, Compete methodology to create a new breed of skilled ethical hackers. “The United States faces a severe shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals today, putting companies, government agencies, infrastructure, and Americans themselves at great risk,” said Jay Bavisi, Founder and CEO of EC-Council Group. “EC-Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker program, mandated by many government agencies today, is the gold standard for ethical hacker training, and the new learning model will help train up our supply of cybersecurity professionals with real skills and experience.” A recent report by Cybersecurity Ventures pointed out that the gap of unfilled cybersecurity positions has grown by 350% between 2013 and 2021, with a current cybersecurity job vacancy rate of nearly 50%, according to CyberSeek, a project supported by the US Department of Commerce’s National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE). This shortage of available talent has real world consequences. According to a recent report from Fortinet, almost 80% of breaches were due to skill gaps that exist in organizations around the globe. Bavisi added “Cybersecurity jobs evolve very fast, and we need professionals that have a broad range of skills that can be deployed in the real world,” “The new four-phase Learn, Certify, Engage Compete learning framework makes the CEH program the first program of its kind to actually take trainees beyond knowledge and have them put their skills to practical use.” CEH today is relied upon by the US Department of Defense and other government agencies and used in 7 of the Fortune 10, 47 of the Fortune 100 within many cybersecurity functions, making it a de facto standard both in the public and private sector. The Certified Ethical Hacker program has been used by law enforcement, defense and Fortune 500 companies since early 2000. The Pentagon has embraced the CEH program as part of its defense workforce skill development program since 2010. With the new version, it has been completely updated as part of the Learn and Certify methodology to match the cybersecurity challenges that cyber professionals face today. With the addition of Edge, Fog, Grid computing and the MITRE ATT&CK framework among others, CEH version 12 incorporates hacking techniques of the newest operating systems including Windows 11 and Server 2022, covering over 3500 cyber security tools, 519 Attack techniques, and over 220 distinct hands-on cyber exercises. Candidates pursuing CEH Version 12 will now have access to the training program which incorporates comprehensive instruction and hands-on labs, followed by a simulated ethical hacking engagement to apply their skills in a live cyber range environment that emulates a mid-size target organization with four immersive, self-driven hacking assessments lasting 4 hours each which will require them to hack the organization in order to test their newly acquire skills from the program with a methodology called Engage. Once the applied skills are mastered, candidates will be greeted with 12 months of global hacking competition under the Compete methodology of the new CEH learning model. Candidates will see monthly skill enriching competitions, leaderboards, and detailed assessments of their performance in each competition setting. Building global Ethical Hacker Challenge Leaderboards, aspiring professionals will compete for top ranks among ethical hackers across the world with dynamic challenges covering everything from Malware to Service Exploitation, Web Application Attacks, to SCADA and ICS systems that control everything from power grids to water supply systems of cities across the world.
